Hired Audience For 'Jai Bolo Telangana'?

It is just a little more than two weeks since “Jai Bolo Telangana,” the much-hyped film on Telangana agitation, has been released. The first two days were really encouraging for producer-director N Shankar as the theatres ran for packed houses.
But as the days passed, the theatres have become empty. Though many theatres took the film off, there are still some theatres which are being forced to run the shows under pressure from Telangana Rashtra Samithi leaders.
According to reports from Telangana districts, the TRS leaders have got instructions from the Telangana Bhavan to purchase tickets in bulk and mobilize people to see the movie free of cost. And in some places, the local TRS leaders are also supplying Biryani packets to the audience to sit through the entire show and dance to the songs in the theatre.
Interestingly, Shankar himself told a Telugu television channel that the film did not fetch over 30 per cent of the revenues. He admitted that the film is running in empty theatres in several places. And in Seemandhra region, it did not run even for three or four days. Well, how long one can run the film with hired audience? Though the theme was good, Shankar has miserably failed to project the movement in proper spirit and give it a momentum. Perhaps it was why TRS president K Chandrasekhara Rao walked out of the preview theatre!
