Tollywood Box-Office: January 2011 Report

PVC: (Parama Ghora Chetta)This Sankranthi has made big bang with big releases and the on the top is Parama Veera Chakra. The film was declared to be a flop on the day of its release itself. Dasari Narayana Rao’s direction and his way of conceiving the scenes marred the movie. Although a commendable story line, Dasari’s capabilities couldn’t match the requirement of contemporary standards of screenplay and dialogue. The movie miserably made worst collections ever recorded in the history of Balakrishna’s filmography. The official report of the collections hasn’t come out but trade circles say that it has collected not more than Rs 1.75 Cr on a whole.
Mirapakai: (Hot Food For Festival)This is the movie that scored better when compared to all other movies released for Sankranthi season. The official collections report was released with figure 25 Cr plus. But there are doubts surrounding that. Some have opined that was bloated up and the actual figure would be lesser than that. On a whole, Harish Shankar got good commendations for his directorial capabilities. Ravi Teja carried the movie well with his energies.
Anaganaga O Dheerudu: (Crown On Skeleton)Graphics have proved excellent but the content proved dud. There is no enticing factor in the movie and that killed on a whole. The graphics on a ‘no content’ movie is like crowing a skeleton. Lakshmi Manchu scored good marks for her performance and rest has gone with the wind. Rs 30 Cr was invested on the film it is hard to get 1/6th back.
Golconda High School: (Recognized by Kids of AP)This movie directed by Indraganti Mohana Krishna is recognized by Kids of Andhra Pradesh. Made on the back drop of necessity of children taking part in sports other than studies, this move has got good intention. But the treatment was dealt seriously lacking necessary humor. Indraganti is known for his humor with Asta Chemma and obviously audience expected that trade mark from him which was missed.
Ala Modalaindi: (Baaga end ayindi)Lady director Nandini Reddy directed the movie and scored good marks. It started well and ended really wonderful. This is the small movie that is getting very good applause, and unanimously it is getting better applause from all segments of audience. The movie is potential of collecting more than Rs 10 Cr as per trade circles.
Wanted: (Unwanted)This is the most Unwanted film of the season, as per the box office collections. Directed by debutante director BVS Ravi, the film failed to grip the attention of audiences due to weak characterizations and lack of depth in narration. The official report is not yet out and on a whole it will not break even for sure, say trade circles.
Vareva: (Went and Gone)This is the film that has come and gone silently without making any noise at box office. This proves to be a wonder. The movie pulled attention of the public prior to the release but at the time of release no publicity was made. Brahmanandam’s son Goutham re-debuted (!) with this film after ‘Pallakilo Pellikoothuru’. It’s the biggest flop of the season.
